On December 20, Lee/Nct Generals volunteered to wrap gifts for shoppers on the Arsenal. There were two hour shifts and cadets arrived in time and left when their shift was over. Overall this was a great experience and it was fun to learn and to teach others how to wrap gifts.
Veterans Day Parade
The Lee/New Century General Battalion had the great honor and privilege of marching in the Veterans Day parade. The Veterans Day was held on November 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. The Veterans Day parade had more than 30 organizations participating and over 200 participants. We paid tribute to all veterans by marching in uniform, singing cadences, paying our respect. This had to be one of the best Veterans Day parades I’ve participated in! The parade ran expeditiously and the Battalion was thoroughly prepared for this parade. After we left the parade we went back to the school where we partook in delicious refreshments. A special thanks to our many sponsors and the help of our booster club parents! This day wouldn’t have been a success without you! · C/CPT Johnson NOBCChE’s Annual Conference NOBCChE stands for National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers. The event was separated in two categories where middle school students and high school students engaged in academic science bowl, answering rapid fire science, and math and technology questions. Our AJROTC chapter, along with many more, took time to make our special peers feel important in our community. Under the instruction of Senior Army Instructor Colonel Diane Richie and Sergeant Dwight Speight, Lee/New Century Battalion learned hands on, the fundamentals of selfless service. This event was based solely on the athletes. There were athletes, ages ranging from 8-62, participating in events including the 20 meter walk, 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash and the shot-put. Our cadets took part in helping athletes get to their event on time and also cheering them on during their event. We are very proud of our cadets and feel as if they did an exceptional job with this project. We do these service learning projects as a strategy in helping us motivate our young people to become better citizens. Isn’t that what the ARMY Junior Reserves Training Corps is all about? Absolutely! · Cadet Nijha Freeman Renovating Hope The air was cool but our hearts were warm on December the 12th 2014, as we were able to witness Staff Sergeant Randall Smith receive his new home from Renovating Hope. SSGT Smith is a wounded warrior he served for 12 and a half years in the United States Military. He was deployed five times. He experienced many injuries, and after a back injury he went to Fort Riley. Staff Sergeant Smith was joined by his wife, Brittany, and his son Dominic at the Renovating Hope Ceremony. Before the Ceremony, Cadets Cody Holland, Michael Rowse, and Bailey Hill raised the American flag in the front yard of SSGT Smith's new home. We were able to hang out with Staff sergeant Smith and listen to his war stories. Paul Hoffecker with opening remarks, welcoming everyone to the event and thanking us for being there. They began with praying for the family and the community. Kristen McBride, was a speaker at the ceremony, in front of the new home. She began by thanking the community for their support. Then by saying how Staff Sergeant Smith has sacrificed a lot for us to be safe. The highlight of her speech was when she said "to remain strong as a nation the least we could do is say thanks to show our appreciation." Major General McDonald got up to speak next. "Our soldiers have sacrificed for our country in some of the most trying ways," MG McDonald said. He mentioned the fact that SSGT Smith has spent more time deployed then he has in the USA. SSGT Smith was willing to put his country before himself. Paul Hoffecker got up again with closing remarks, acknowledging all of the volunteers and even the Lee/New Century JROTC Battalion. "Since the time I came down here it was open arms" says Paul Hoffecker as he was finishing up. · Cadet Morgan Gibson On the day of Special Olympics, a certain amount of cadets were chosen to participate and escort the athletes.
